Welcome to the Skokie Site
Environmental Clean-Up Project Site

Nicor Gas and ComEd have completed the environmental clean-up project at the site of a former manufactured gas plant (MGP) facility in Skokie, Illinois. The property is located at the southwest corner of Oakton Street and McCormick Boulevard and is owned by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD).

The clean-up was performed under the oversight of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency as part of its voluntary Site Remediation Program. The project included the removal of the former MGP underground structures and residuals from the plant’s operations. Work began in December 2012 and was completed in October 2015. Future plans for the site will be determined by the Skokie Park District and the property owner, the MWRD.

Nicor Gas and ComEd thank the Village of Skokie, the Skokie Park District and all our neighbors for their assistance, support and cooperation throughout this project!
