Environmental Site Investigation Project

Nicor Gas and Commonwealth Edison (the Utilities) are conducting an environmental investigation of the site of a former manufactured gas plant (MGP) facility in Skokie, Illinois. The property is located at the southwest corner of Oakton Street and McCormick Boulevard in Skokie and is currently vacant and enclosed by a chain-link fence.

The purpose of the site investigation is to determine the extent of the environmental impact resulting from the prior operation of the MGP site. The investigation is being performed under a permit from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago – the current owner of the site, and in cooperation and coordination with the Village of Skokie and the Skokie Park District.

The Utilities are providing this website as a means of keeping the community informed about the site investigation project.
